The challenge

House of Suntory sells premium Japanese spirits under various brands such as Roku, Haku, Hibiki and Toki. The bottles that make up these brands are premium products with an elegant design, and are often embellished with engravings and labels that distinguish them as pioneers in terms of creativity and innovation. This luxurious look is sometimes lost in photographs, and when the liquid is transparent or against a busy background, the images do not highlight the characteristics that make the bottles unique. The brand needed new assets for all markets that would accurately reflect the look and feel of each bottle.

The solution

CGI allows a world of possibilities for creating more advanced assets

Based on the packaging design plans and indications regarding colours, sizes and product types, the Optopus 3D team created computer generated images (CGI): photographic quality images made using software. We follow a four step process, starting with modeling the bottle, adding the textures, designing the scene, defining the light, adding the artwork (labels), adjusting the light and point of view, and then rendering the product. The final step is to make necessary design touches to achieve the desired effect.

The result

The result is a suite of premium images of each bottle design, optimised for eCommerce use. These can also be used for a variety of visual creations that the brand may need in the future. For example, it allows quick editing of the label to update it for a particular market, or for product inclusion in an advertising creative.

In addition, it allows a world of possibilities with regards to advanced assets such as 360 spins, videos and virtual reality. In the case of these specific HoS brands, the CGI made it possible for us to design A+ pages for Amazon, digital campaigns, CGI videos of rotational products and mobile-ready hero images.
