DJ Plastic’s well-known music production & DJ school has increased its offer of online courses as more and more students prefer learning virtually post-pandemic. Plastic is currently offering online classes via streaming; using video call applications. To mimic the offline experience as much as possible, they wanted to replicate the space where their classes are physically held in the digital world. In this way, the online class feel as similar as possible to the experience of being physically in the school – but from the comfort of the home.
Another goal is to position themselves as a reference in the ‘virtual school’ arena.
At Optopus, our long experience in creating 3D products and environments has given us a good basis for delving into exploring the possibilities of the metaverse.
Many companies are interested in applying immersive online solutions to bring offline experiences (such as a flagship store, sampling event or a learning course) online.
In this case we used CatVers, a shared virtual space that uses virtual reality, augmented reality, avatars and the internet to design a learning environment for Plastic.
We created a virtual environment where students can move and chat through avatars. Following the specifications of the academy, the classes are transmitted through a mixed reality system in which the teacher appears in a real way in a virtual space. This allows us to take advantage of the system they use for video calls, adapting it to the virtual environment.
The online school is becoming more and more real, replicating the experience of being in a physical classroom in many ways. This type of space allows students to interact with each other without disturbing the rest of the class. In addition, the environment can have multiple uses as a conference room, interviews or events, being easily expandable or reconfigurable to adapt to new possibilities. Welcome to the world of the metaverse!
